Los Patricios

Los Patricios tells the story of the Irish battalion that fought in the Mexican-American War (1846 - 1848). Under their green flag, the battalion participated in the major battles of the war and was cited many times for bravery. In the final phase of the conflict, even when they had exhausted their ammunition, these Irish refused to surrender, fighting with their bayonets, until they were finally overwhelmed by a much larger number of US Army solders. Despite their brave resistance, about 85 Irish were captured, tortured and hanged by the Americans, in some of the worst war crimes that marked the bloody conflict. Their sacrifice is remembered with pride and gratitude by the people of Mexico. This is the first book in a series that describes the exploits of the Irish, and their descendants in Latin America. In Spanish. Suitable for children 12 years or older. (e-book)
